Subject Description

This subject explores critical concepts in climate change debates, including risk, uncertainty, adaptation, mitigation, and burden sharing. It reviews the history and evolution of climate change policy both nationally and internationally, focusing on regions like Australia, the U.S., the EU, and China. Key agreements, such as the UNFCCC and Kyoto Protocol, are analyzed alongside current policy frameworks. Students study various policy instruments, including carbon taxes and emissions trading, as well as proposed technologies to combat global warming. The subject provides insights into the technical, political, ethical, and ecological aspects of climate policy, preparing students to critically engage with policy development.
