Subject Description

Epidemiology is the study of the distribution and determinants of disease frequency in human populations and the application of this study to control health problems. It is a fundamental science of public health. Three main tasks of epidemiology include description, causal inference and prediction. This subject focuses on the first two and emphasises the application of epidemiological evidence to informing public health practice and policy.

Epi was a great subject. Andrew is engaging and great at explaining epi concepts - I'd highly recommend attending the weekly Q+A. Jessie (my tutor) was also great - would recommend going to the tutes too. The first half of the semester is more calculations, which imo was actually the easier part. Second half was more difficult conceptually. Assessments were interesting, the assignments I found them more difficult compared to Biostats so I'd recommend asking tons of questions and starting them early.
